DeMille, DMD, a board-certified expert who has received over 130 hours of continuing education specifically in orthodontics, focuses not just on straightening teeth but also on enhancing functionality. Traditional braces are an effective solution for correcting various dental issues, ensuring a beautiful smile that contributes to your overall health. Approximately 4 million people in the United States wear braces at any given time, highlighting their prevalence and importance.
They’re peak. I had a bad dentist before and my Uncle recommended them to me after my last dentist totally up and ditched us. Dr. McGavin fixed all the problems the last guy jacked up with my teeth and it’s practically like the front of my teeth never got ripped off (now that’s a story) and now this new guy he’s peak too, I haven’t had work done on my teeth with him yet but he’s very nice so far and apparently has orthodontist experience so that’s pretty cool. The hygienists here, they’re AWESOME like if you have sensitive teeth they’ll make sure you’re not dying in pain. My hygienist even puts numbing jelly on my front gums and teeth when it gets to be too much for me and that’s really nice because pain sucks and they’re very considerate and the front desk ladies are also very helpful. All around I like this dentist and it’s very refreshing especially after having such a bad dentist before.
Understanding Traditional Braces Benefits
Traditional braces are specifically designed to address a myriad of dental issues, including crooked teeth, crowded gums, and misaligned bites that affect about 15% of the population. These braces consist of metal brackets attached to your teeth, which are linked by wires to gradually move your teeth into the desired position. The average duration of comprehensive orthodontic treatment with traditional braces is under two years, with most cases requiring between 12 to 24 months, during which our experienced team closely monitors your progress to ensure optimal results.
How Traditional Braces Improve Dental Aesthetics
Braces play a crucial role in enhancing not only the aesthetics of your smile but also your overall oral health. By gradually aligning your teeth and correcting bite issues, traditional braces helps reduce the risk of future dental complications. This solution is beneficial for both children and adults, demonstrating their versatility in meeting diverse orthodontic needs. Success rates for braces exceed 90% when patients adhere to treatment plans and attend regular appointments, making them a reliable choice for orthodontic corrections.
Discover Types of Braces Available
While traditional braces are prominent, various orthodontic options exist to cater to individual preferences:
- Clear Braces: These offer a discreet alternative with clear brackets.
- Ceramic Braces: Made of clear or tooth-colored materials, ceramic braces blend with your teeth.
- Lingual Braces: Positioned behind the teeth, these braces are invisible from the outside.
- Invisalign: A clear aligner system that offers a removable and less visible option.

What to Expect During Braces Treatment
Your journey with traditional braces begins with a thorough consultation at West Jordan Family Dentistry. During this initial appointment, we will assess your dental health and craft a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. You can expect to visit our office frequently for adjustments, which typically occur every 4-6 weeks to ensure your teeth are moving steadily into the correct positions. After the braces are removed, most patients are required to wear retainers to maintain their newly aligned smiles and prevent misalignment.
Essential Care for Your Braces
Proper care and maintenance of your braces are vital to ensure successful treatment. Always practice good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. Diet plays a significant role as well, so it’s recommended to avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage the braces. Our team at West Jordan Family Dentistry will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for your braces effectively.
Innovations in Orthodontics Enhancing Braces
Recent advancements in orthodontics have led to innovations that improve treatment efficiency and comfort. Notable technologies include AcceleDent, which uses micropulses to accelerate teeth movement, and temporary anchorage devices (TADs), which provide stable points for better alignment. These innovations help to enhance the overall treatment experience while achieving excellent results.
